2019 School Night Results

And Next Steps

The results are in! Over 2,500 new Cub Scouts have joined Northern Star Scouting between August 1 and September 19!

The packs with the most success in recruiting new Cubs were the packs conducting a face to face recruitment effort by being at a school open house, “meet the teacher night” or by participating in a community event. And the paper fliers coming home from school are still the most effective type of marketing. If your school doesn’t allow fliers to go home, work with your school principal.

All packs are encouraged to hold their own recruitment event in October for those who missed joining in September. This could be a “Recruit a Friend” activity, a pack open house activity, or inviting families to join your pack. Some of the best activities for your pack to invite friends to are Halloween parties, a trip to the apple orchard, an afternoon at the local corn maze or hosting a Trunk or Treat activity at your local place of worship.

For those who participate in Halloween, take our readily available trading cards and place a label on the back of each with leader contact info or invite info for your next activity.

Some packs in past years have also affixed a sucker of piece of candy to these trading card/invites. Recruitment materials such as fliers, post cards, trading cards, stickers, etc. can be ordered through your Program Relations Executive.

Fall Recruitment is for troops, crews and ships, too!

Fall is a great time of year to hold a “Recruit a Friend” activity! A day hike, a trip to an orchard or costume party, a Halloween hay ride or haunted house followed up by a bonfire and ‘smores. And, we still have FREE pocket knives for any Scout, Venturer of Sea Scout who recruits a friend – and the new member gets a FREE pocket knife, too!
