Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader Training
At the University of Scouting
Unit Leaders can attend the FIRST “Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader Training” that Northern Star Council has to offer at University of Scouting on October 26th. The Midwest Training Officer for the “Duke of Edinburgh”; Raha Dempsey will coming from the Chicago Office to teach the course. This training will provide you with an international certification as a "Duke of Edinburgh Award Leader". This course will enable you as a unit leader to run the award at the unit level, giving leaders the knowledge and skills required to support Award Participants through their Award journey.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is for ALL youth who are 14-24 years old. It is an exciting self-development program focusing on creating global citizens and empowering young people on a journey of personal discovery and development of life skills through service, physical fitness, skill development and an adventurous journey. The Award is achieved through activities within the local community and is largely self-directed. It can be an alternative to traditional Scout advancement but can also assist Scouts to obtain rank. The Award also provides the perfect opportunity to further challenge Eagle, Summit and Quartermaster award holders and keep them connected to Scouting. You can further develop skills that are learnt though Merit Badges.
There will also be two upcoming informational sessions at the Leadership Center on Wednesday October 2nd and Wednesday November 6th from 6-8pm, as well as a class at University of Scouting for interested youth. If you are interested in participating in the award please contact Vicki Jurek, firstname.lastname@example.org, Bob Gwinn, email@example.com or Sarah Lund, firstname.lastname@example.org for more information
