Iron Chopped 2019 Saw Some Tasty Creations
Including MCs Jet and Ali Tila from Food Network
It was a wild time in the kitchen and cafeteria of St. Paul College on Saturday, March 30! Dozens of Scouts, with their parents and friends watching, got to cook and decorates their own dishes to be served, competition style, to local celebrity judges. The whole event was led by emcees Jet and Ali Tila of Food Network fame!
A Popcorn Prize Event
This was the first year of this event, Iron Chopped 2019, as a reward for popcorn sellers from last fall's popcorn sale, who sold over $1300. And it proved to be a popular choice! Scouts each received an apron on arrival and were put in teams of three, with similarly aged Scouts. They were then assigned to cook their own custom macaroni and cheese dish or decorate cupcakes (before flip-flopping). They had roughly 30 minutes to make their perfect creations before serving them to the judges!
The food was then judged by some local food celebrities. Justin Sutherland (a recent contestant on Top Chef, restaurant owner, and former Boy Scout in St. Paul) and Scout Executive John Andrews were two of the judges who got to vote for their favorite. There was also Tom Schisler, the Sales Director at Catholic United Financial and Esera Tuaolo, former NFL player and author of "Taste the NFL". Lastly, Glen Forman, the Sous Chef at Young Joni and Jack Van de North, former Ramsey County Judge were also judgess. Chef Pierre of St. Paul College was the host and food expert who guided the Scouts on their way, giving recommendations to make delicious dishes.
