BALOO Training - May 3-5, 2019 - Phillippo Scout Camp
Coming up in May is a great opportunity to learn the skills necessary to lead Cub Scout outdoor activities like camping. BALOO stands for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. BSA requires that a BALOO-trained adult be in any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos Den overnighters.
BALOO training entails an outdoor camping session. This over-night campout will be on your choice of May 3&4 or May 4&5 at Phillippo Scout Reservation near Cannon Falls. The best thing about this particular opportunity is that you will be able to BYOK - Bring Your Own Kid (kindergarten 5th Grade) - because the training staff will have activities for them while you can devote your time to learning outdoor skills.
Prior to the outdoor training, you'll need to go through some on-line modules on https://my.scouting.org
. Once you've logged on the site, click on the "BSA LEARN CENTER" box on the right side of the page, then on the "Expanded Learning" circle on the far right of the next page. BALOO is listed among these Expanded Learning modules. It should take about an hour to go through the on-line training.
I hope you can attend this course, and I encourage you to pass this message along to any parents in you den that are interested in participating in Cub Outdoor Programs. This is a great way to learn the basics of camping if they haven't had much outdoor experience, as well as to brush up skills they may have forgotten.
